mEl,

Thanks for the advice on the electronic ignitions for the 930 LP's.
I'm tempted to try the "Ignightor 2" but it says on the regular "Ignightor" posting that you have to replace cap and rotor, but no mention of this on the "Ignightor 2". I know I have two different types of distributors and if I remember correctly the one type has no parts available. The caps look ok but I'd hate to bring those kits here and no be able to use them. What do you think? Anyone else know? Jump on!

Ted, I would just get the cap n rotor. The rotor is the drive mechanism for the module, the magnet ring has wings that stick straight up and the rotor sets down in it. The cap and rotor are a set. I had to change the 7-870s also.

It sounds like they have addressed a slight problem present in the IG1, I believe they mentioned overload protection in the description.

This issue was more prevalent on 4 cylinder engines than 6s due to the fact that 4s had more dwell time and the module could overheat and fail. Coil Ohms is critical. 4 Ohms primary is required and I would go one step further and install a ballast resistor in addition as the unit will work quite well with the added resistance which will serve as protection from over current .

Keep in mind that this modification will be very polarity sensitive, improper jump starting or any reverse polarity voltage can fail the module.

Due to the fact of where your work is located I think keeping a spare is prudent.

Happy New Year .Guys ...... a spare or 2 is a good idea ... Ted ,, I think you will like electronic ignition ,, best thing I ever done folr the DC ,, that ol Gent simply will not take No for answer ,,.

mEl.

I need to go look at the tractors, but a few years ago I needed parts and, if I remember correctly, there were Prestolite and Delco distributors, and one of them didn't have caps, points and rotors available. I'll check the makes and get back to you.
