1370 Hydraulics dipstick broken, sight glasses stained

Another question guys. Got both 1370 running, but one has a homemade plug over the hydraulic filler cap, the other has a filler cap but dipstick is broken off (I assume, since the old one we had never had a dipstick). Sight glasses on both are stained and look the same to me on both tractors.

The one I am taking to the field, I know is low. It had leaks and the brakes and steering seemed to shudder slightly every now and then. I didn"t run it long at all like this.

I put 10 gallons in it tonight while I had my brother watching the sight glasses. He never saw any change on either of them. I don"t want to overfill it, so we stopped.

Can anybody tell me if there is another way to check the hyd fluid level? If not, and if that cap is supposed to have a dipstick, can somebody take a picture of their 1370 hyd dipstick next to a ruler so I know how far down the fluid should be?

Our 1170 is the same way. You cant see through the stained glass bulbs. Some one told me here on this forum to take a 12 pt socket and screw out the max fill bulb. (Careful, those bulbs are glass & have a pipe thread end) If it starts to leak out as you turn it out you are full. Do a search here. I asked about this not quite a year ago.

Thank you! I just searched and found that thread. I'll pull top one, see if anything comes out. If nothing will pull bottom, clean both, put bottom back in, fill until top seeps, and then put it back in. Appreciate the help!

If you elect to turn them out try to squese a thin cloth in between socket an glass. Not sure of threads as its been long time but if pipe thread you could just plug it with pipe plug an remove to check

If you get sight glasses out but they wont come clean, they are available from CNH. Had to get 2 for my 870 not long ago
