Hydraulic dipstick and Western Hitch

Hey Guys, On the hydraulic dipstick the little full/add indicator is halfway between the 1 and the 6! This doesn't seem correct. I talked to John in NY and he said that it should be up by the 1. The indicator seems pretty solid in that position, I can't slide it with my fingers. I'm worried that if I grab it with a pliers that it will eventually slide back down and fall off into the hydraulics and cause major problems. Is there any reason why I can't just take that piece off and use the indentions in the dipstick for oil level?

Also, I have the big 'Yoke' style western hitch on my 930. The top part is welded SOLID not bolted on. My operators manual says that you should NOT use pto powered equipment with this style hitch. That is a real bummer, considering I bought the tractor for field work and cutting and baling hay! Any ideas? Can I go to a bone yard and find a straight hitch from a 30 series tractor that will bolt on? I really have no use for a western hitch. Thanks, Dan

I noticed when I get build cards for CK tractors that there is a note on them as to where that slider should go on the dipstick. No idea why it would be adjustable unless it was to allow for more capacity for hydraulic components or accessories.

Does the manual actually call it a "Western" hitch??

If so, I think it is what is commonly called a "swinging drawbar".

Case"s terminology of "Western Special" is what I commonly call a "Standard" and some folks call a "Wheatland".

A big Standard tractor of any make was very common on the central plains when I was growing up on the farm. These big tractors always had a swinging drawbar to assist with turns when doing heavy tillage.

DKase- Mine is a late '66 CK diesel Western Special with 8 speed tranny.

Bob- Thanks for the advice, I will look tonight and see if I can just flip it over. Thanks Bob I really enjoy the tractor, just getting the full service done and in tip top shape.

Do you have a Western with the 8 speed trans, of a Standard with the 6 speed? If you have the 6 speed the problem is getting the PTO to line up without a nasty angle on the U-joints. You might have to raise the hitch, or raise the PTO on your implement. I think the only reason they say what they do about that drawbar and PTO is alignment issues.

Dan - you can just pin your implement to the bottom main drawbar and you will be fine. Or you can torch/grind the top off. Or, you can find another draw bar. I would just pin to the bottom. You will be fine with a baler, etc. Good luck - Bob

Two manuals here show the yoke on the bottom of the drawbar, you must have a later unit. Replace with a flat drawbar, or torch the yoke off. Full mark is on #1 on a couple 930's I looked at here also. Should be able to slide the indicator up.
