My ’52 SC with Case mag was a no spark after at least two years not running. It ran fine when parked in a covered but not heated shed. The mag was one part of this restoration I never had to touch, it always worked. I checked the timing and it was very close. I cleaned the points with emery cloth before reading some posts about the grit being an insulator and using a dollar bill to clean and polish the points. I still had a no spark. I went back in and made another pass between the point contacts with the emery cloth followed by a cleaning with some special nylon pipe cleaners I have then followed by a pass with some clean white cardboard. I had cleaned the carbon track on the rotor but I went back in and polished everything with a pencil eraser. Put it back together and BAM, a big blue spark! I was very happy to see just how reliable these old mags are. I didn’t want to believe it needed rebuilt. Now if I can just get that carb dialed in….
