970 air conditiong question

I'm going to convert the a/c to 134a on a 970 by changing the compressor oil and fittings. How much 134a will it take? It holds 22 inches of vacume for 3 days so I'm ready to buy the 134a and charge it. Anyone know how much it needs?

I'm no expert but have done a couple. System capacity is 48 oz but that is R-12. It is said to decrease that by 20% for R 134 so I went with 3- 12 oz cans or 36 oz and it would freeze ya out. My problem was that through age etc, I was only getting 11.5 V to the compressor which would not energize the clutch but 12.4 V would so I installed a relay in the 11.5 line and wired from bat term on back of alt to the other side of relay to clutch and worked just fine. May have to hot-wire clutch at first to get it drawing refrigerant until low pressure switch de-activates to let current to clutch.

Why not top load it with 414a...R12 compatible stuff.
