I am planning a trip to the national plowing matches in a couple of weeks near Greenville Ohio. After looking at the map, it looks like taking I74 to Indianapolis and then I70 east is the easiest route( from central Iowa). Our travel plans would get us to Indy around 4:00 pm. I have heard stories about driving there, none of them good, is there a better route? I will be running a pickup and trailer with a 730 and a plow. Thanks Mike.

All roads around have lots of towns and stops and are a pain if your pulling. Indy is not that bad, but if you get there by 3 or 3:30 you will sail right through. Or wait around til 6 or so. If you actually get there at 4 you won't have much problem either but by 4:30 it's startin to back up. Most of the problems now are because of the construction going north out of town but you will be going against that.

I went to eastern Ohio, a couple years ago. Hit Indy about 4 in the morning, and it still SUCKED. This was in December. On the way home, hit Indy during a blizzard, and IT SUCKED WORSE!! I am pretty sure that there are only about 10 drivers in Indy that know how to drive. The rest got their drivers licensee out of a cereal box. I have driven through many large cities, Indy and Dallas are the 2 I will try to NEVER drive through again.

You just had bad luck, I go through there several times a month and most often sail right through without even slowing down. If you want adventure in driving try Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, Phily, Baltimore, Dc, Ny, La, heck any Ca. city. THEN you will know what traffic is.

agreed jon,Indy aint bad ,,, louisvile ky ,, is pitiful even thou it is a one horse town . went thru dallas to ft worth in 1979 during rush hour,, we rushed thru 5 lanes wide 70 mph nearly bumper to bumper, driving my 69 Mercury Marquis convertible ..dallas and Atlanta are pretty to drive thru at nite,.. if you get thru this area ,, and got time for a visit ,, look me up ,,. 812-596-4605 .. jh

There was road construction going on even in December, I think, or a big wreck. Don't remember now. Dallas, if you hit road construction, they speed up. Pueblo CO, sucks too, especially pulling a stock trailer. Hit your turn signal, and they try to make sure you can't move over. GRRRR I have driven in LA, and I didn't think it was too bad. I didn't have any problem in N Y C either, but I was just in a car there.

Thanks for the replies, looks like Indianaoplis it is, might try to take off a little sooner to avoid rush hour, are there any good places to stop on the westside of Indy. to top off gas before heading into the city? Mike

I can't get gas prices, but loves at exit 61 on I-74 is cheapest for diesel today. Gas is usually best price there too. Diesel pump price is $3.68 right now.

Once agin thank you, fuel, a restroom, and a leg stretch before a period of on your toes driving is a good thing. Mike
