direct injection heads on 301

Will is work? I have a good 301 830 diesel block that I would like to put a set of direct injection heads on. This tractor is used everyday and I have the direct injection heads laying around. I haven't looked yet but other that making injector line what else am I going to run into? I know I will have to plug one bolt hole also. I want this tractor to start easier than the old 30 series. Thanks

There is such a thing as a 301 direct injection engine that was in the 680 CK. Like Jon said it is quite involved to change. 30 series engines will start very good if the compression is up to snuff. This can be fixed with new valve seats and good valves. The valve that is on the surface of the head needs to be at the proper protrusion or it will hit the piston, but the valve in the hole above the injector can have a thicker seat that pushes the valve down into the combustion chamber further raising compression. It makes a huge difference on starting and power. Might be a better option than changing heads.

you'll also need pistons, push rods and rockers. And you'll have to do something about the head bolts. 70 series and larger diameter and shorter so 30 series will be too long.

Also don't forget intake, exhaust, and water manifolds and there may be some issues with mating water manifold to the radiator.
