That answers my question bout the knives. In the back at the bottom of the cutter housing there was a tool or something that went across the unit below the cutterhead. It was about a 3/8 or 1/2" rod about 3' long with a short hex shaft, about 3" long across one end. It went through 2 holes in the housing and was held in with a cotter pin. Any idea what that is?

Jon , If I remember right { long time ago } back when I was a kid .. we had a chopper { not a Case ] Anyway when we had to replace or sharpen the knifes ... dad told NEVER do anything untill we put a rod thur the housing to KEEP the knifes from turning Maybe thats what it's for .... I'm sure someone will say for sure if that's what iy's used for .,.. ..... mark
