Got the tin painted on my 1960 630 Case and am putting it back together. Thought I would repaint the air cleaner (does not have the screen that sits above the nose cowl). Should it be Flambeau Red or Desert Sunset? Its red now but the tractor had a sloppy repaint done at some point in its life so I am not sure it should have been red. Its been too long (about 45 years) but it seems like I remember the family 830 air cleander being Desert Sunset.

I have a 1960 530 that has original paint and the air cleaner is Flambeau on it, it does not have the "thru-the hood" precleaner also, I can look at my 630 too but I think it is Flambeau also this may have been a Rockford thing as my 830's ect have a DS air cleaner body

CNT, don't get out in the cold, you and Loren have told me what I need. If your 530 is red the 630 will be too. My aircleaner didn't have any chipped paint that seemed to show DS under the FR. My question was to make sure I would be historically accurate.

Also will let me go back together soon as I will repaint these parts when I start doing the tractor engine, cases, etc. I am going to have to split her to replace the ring and pinion and one set of Side and bull gears, which I have. When I get my new shop built in a few months I will be able to do this easily as I will be able to have the room to spread out and work competely around the tractor.

Thanks so much yall.

Jim

Jim,
It would be flambeau. The later big frame tractors had DS canisters under the hood. Stacks above the hood were DS also.

Today's Featured Article - Product Review: Lead Substitutes - by Mike Schordine. Lead was oriinally added to gasoline as an upper cylinder lubricant. It lubes the valves and seats. If you rebuild the motor, you could use hardened seats and valves, and unleaded fuel. But if your old tractor runs good, a simple lead substitute added to the gas is a perfectly reasonable solution. And, if you are like me, your tractor is under cover, but it sits outside. So with every temperature change, the humidity in the air collects in the fuel tank, in the form of water. ...
