No, they look the same and work the same however the center steering shaft in an 830 is larger than a 400. I have an 830 front end complete on my 400 diesel and I went to rebuild steering gearbox and I bought 400 parts not realizing that the shaft was a different size. Just food for thought should you ever have to do work on the steering gearbox to make sure you look at the 830 parts book for parts.

Yes, however, remember you did it because some parts are different between the 400 and 830 steering gear box and I forgot, so I ended up buying extra seals and O-rings! Aside from the gear box they are identical.

Do you have to put a different steering box on it?

Today's Featured Article - Massey Ferguson 35 (and up) Tractor Assembly Notes - by Jack Wetmore. These assembly notes are for Massey Ferguson tractors with a two stage clutch and 6 speed, 8 speed and mutli-power transmissions. I see a lot of discussion forum messages regarding damaged clutches from improper assembly. The objective is to have the engine and transmission slide together safely and easily until the gap between the two halves is less than 1/4", BEFORE tightening any of the bolts holding the two together. Using bolts to draw the two halves together will damage the PTO ... [Read Article]
