A sunny morn. seemed like a good time to take a few pics. I am disking soybean stuble which will mix in the straw and fall applied fert. Most people around here use a chisel to accomplish this task but my 1440 does not have a straw chopper so the disk helps shorten long straw which will plug my old field cult. in the spring. Theres a couple field shots, a tractor shadow, disk, a mirror shot of work done and a view from cab top of wind towers in the distance. The closest tower is about a mile away. Rod.

Rod, nice pics, looks good to see those tough 70's at work. We just finished chopping corn, 1370 on the chopper, 1410 DB on the blower and 470 hauling loads. Filled 3 silos, had to chop a lot of silage, since we don't have much hay this year. Lots of experienced power, just like yours.

Ken, a 1410 and 470 are tractors I never see around here. You'll have to show a pic or two of them working sometime. Rod.

Very nice 1270 Rod. They wanted to do the wind turbine thing Northwest of here but people put up a big fuss about it........... What are the cons of it?

Hi, Eric, Very few people get income from them, only land owners and investors. These things are huge and do mess-up a landscape. I would not want to live within a couple miles of them. They are noisy. Have some about 3-4 miles from us and under the right conditions we can hear them. If you live east or west of them you get a annoying flicker and shadowing effect from the sun shining through turning blades. Hows that shop coming along? Rod.

We only sold one 1270, a white 76 version similar to yours. The 1270s were a bit of an orphan, 451T same power as an 1175, and a lot more weight, but had all the features of the 13/15s Bigger cab, inboard planitaries, side excess to tranny, etc., but for a couple grand more a farmer could own a 13 with a 504, with much more potential HP.

Where I worked they sold alot of 10's and 13's never a 12. Your right sort of a orphan. A 135 hp tractor should have had a 540 pto also. Rod.

woke up around 4am to the sound of light rain. i was pretty excited just to hear the sound of rain.checked the rain gauge it had just 2tenth's of an inch.enough to settle the dust for a day.we bought a 1270 about a month ago.it has the frameless back window so it should be a 1978.it shows 5100hrs. the cab seals up nice and tight.ac even works!we put about 50 hrs on it hauling hay and on the bale processer.i think it was used for summer work only because there are no signs of a frost plug heater or tank heater.the motor has more blow by then i like to see but doesn't use any oil or water yet.nice tractors.what is the 970 up to these days?

Hope that 1270 works out good for you. I can see this one I got has been overhauled at one time, have no idea of actual hrs. The 970 is done for the year, but the snowblower goes on it just incase. Rod.

Is that a manual fold 480 IH disc?

I have a manual fold disc that was given to my wife about 15-17 years ago. We thought it was a 480 but it ended up being a 48.

You donít know where a guy can get a lift spring for a 48 at do you?

Its got a 50 coil spring

Looks like fairly wide spacing on the rows or is it just an illusion from the camera? Nice looking tractor. I'm in Waseca County and we have a large number of wind towers around here south in Freeborn and east in Steele Counties.

I'm more of an Oliver guy but some tractors just draw my attention, these Case 70 series happen to be one of them. Nice pictures, makes me want to jump in the tractor and do the work for you. Before I read you were in SW Minn., I would have guessed northern Iowa from all the wind turbines. I don't know much about the Case line so pardon my questions. What kind of power you getting out of that 1270? Does that cab have noise reduction material inside? What type of transmission and how many gears does the 70 series have?

The 1270's have a 451 turbo eng. rated at 135. These tractors had quiet cabs. On almost all 70 series through the years the sound deadening material has deteareated and needs redoing. I have reinsulated the firewall and cab and it is now quieter than when it was new. Trans has 4 gears with 3 forward and 1 rev pr. shift in each making 12 forward 4 rev. On later units the fastest rev. was locked out for safety. (to fast) Rod.

Nice Tractor, mine are all Prarie Gold except a 67 580CK TLB. Just had to comment as out here in west Texas we are getting quite a few wind turbines. The writer in our local paper wrote an article with several references to wind turbans. I got tickled and corrected her with an additional comment about where the turbans needed to be kept. She got all upset because I failed to sign my email. LOL

This tractor had been repainted before I purchased it about 3 yr ago. The tack had been replaced also and only shows 1500 hr so actually hrs are unknown. It sat unwanted on a JD lot, I got a very good deal as the rear radials were almost new. The tractor needed alot of TLC but nothing serious. It runs and starts great. Rod.

Rod,
I can't believe how sharp looking your tractors are. I can't tell you that enough. You really must take great care of them. They look like new. Wow, that is a lot of wind turbines down your way. There are a few up here in my county. Not anything like your neighborhood though. Thanks for sharing the pics. I always like to see field work in different parts of the country.

Kurt, thanks for the nice comment on the tractors. I do try to take good care of them as they will have to last through my farming career, hopefully another 10 yr. I have no intentions of replacing them. I will be farming with antiques, that OK I really enjoy operating them and I have been fixing 70 series tractors for 40 yrs., that helps. As for the towers, we have 130 to our north and plans are to put about that many to our south. Rod.
