530 JI Case What Year Is It?

I recently bought a 530 Case gas tractor with a wide front end but the S/N plate is missing. I am trying to find out what year it is.
IT HAS;
Hydrostatic Power Steering
Is a Draft-O-Matic
Independent PTO
Adjustable Front Axle
Adjustable Rear Axle
Individual Gauges on Dash
Dual Range Transmisson
Rear fenders mount to foot pan and rear axle
3 Point Hitch
2 Tool Boxes, One on LH fender & one on Engine
Engine Model # is G159B
Engine S/N is 2649277
Can anyone help identify what year it is?

Your tractor has to be later than mid-1965 since it has individual gauges and hydrostatic steering which were introduced with serial number 8262800 (mid-1965 production).

I don't know for sure when the full fenders were swapped out for the clamshell fenders on the 530, but I believe that was sometime in 1968.

The fact that it has a dual range without a shuttle would lead me to believe it is later than serial number 8297801, which is mid 1966. That was the point the triple range was discontinued. Up to that time the triple was very common on the row crop version. After that time the dual range obviously become the predominate configuration.

So, your 530 would have to be a late 1966, 1967 or possibly an early 1968 model if my serial number breaks are correct.

Someone with an engine serial number close to yours might be able to narrow the date range down a bit more.

If I recall correctly....engine serial numbers can only be traced to "batches" of engines, which may not narrow your search down any further.

Are you sure the engine is the original engine? If you cannot confirm that, the search for an engine manufacture date to date your tractor becomes a bit of a moot point.

Look at your decals on the hood. If you have a round "draft o matic" decal on the tractor, yours is under S/N 8347504, if you do not have that decal, then it is above 8347504. Your engine s/n is newer than mine and my block was cast in 1968 and my tractor is newer than 8340964.

check on the left side of tractor at the bell housing.the serial number should be stamped on the edge of the flange, i believe.

I've got a '67 440, serial number 8308263/ G148B serial number 2620818. Flanged axles, adj. wf. with draftomatic. It's got the clamshell fenders, which don't attach to floorboards.

My 67' 440 is the same as Tim's Serial# 8324730 Eng# 2636250

All this begs the question who are the Jack A$$'s taking the data plates off of the tractor in the first place? DW

I have the full fender that goes to the floorboards. I thought all 530's were this way and were changed to the clamshell fenders on the 570's.

I took the engine S/N to a local (IH)dealer and asked him to check with CASE to find out the tractor s/n years ago. He told me CASE did not have any information for the 30 series, only the 70 series and newer.

Rich told me in an email a while back the only way to use engine numbers was to come to the factory and go thru the build cards one by one. If you pay them (Case) to do that it would be mega bucks.

BTW to answer the "what ja734/8 is swiping the serial number plates"? On the 530 and 630 its farmer Brown way back when as the plate is on the right rear side panel since these are most often missing when you get one. I am betting by looking at my 630 when I got it is that these come off and are thrown in the weeds the first time something needs to be serviced that the panels are in the way of. The only function I can see they serve is that the right one holds the serial number plate. So for us collectors it makes it difficult when trying to get back to original. I found side panels sans the plate, so I wish and hope to go to Racine to peruse the build cards to find the right one someday, probably a pipe dream though.

Casting numbers on row crop rear wheels and engine block (assuming they have never been molested) can help narrow down to a year model.

I checked there and did not find any numbers. What would that number represent?
Tom; I am from Kansas to, live near Benton.
Thanks everyone for all your replys. I believe my tractor is a 68 or 69. That helps.

i have 3 530's. my freind has 2. and all of them have the id tags missing. you can see where the rivet holes are and i have always wondered who would rip them off. they must have used cheap rivets or someting for them all to be gone. i just rebuilt my injector pump and hand etched into the the cam ring is the date of assembly, 1964. so maybe you could find the info there if you tear our pump apart.
