I have been making good progress in my shop redo project. To explain whats has been going on, I started with my 20 yr old 40 by 80 machine shed. Added a wall in the center so I could finish a 40 by 40 area as a new shop. Quite small by todays standards, but I have spent 25 yr working out of a 30 by 40 so I'm loving this. I hope to be able to afford to retire in 5 to 10 yr so when this becomes a true hobby shop the heating and cooling bill will be smaller also. I have done 100% of the work myself with the exception of my son helping to install the ceiling steel, so far it has not cost nearly what I thought it would. When finished I'll post completed pics. Rod.

My hat is off to you Rod,that is a very nice shop, nice sign too!Kinda says your a mini Case dealership!
I hope to get some storage up soon,as my collecting habit has gone wild

Thanks for sharing this Rod,I always like to look at new shops

I have one of those IHcase signs in my shop also they do look good you will really enjoy your shop when done are you using the steel sheets with the holes in it really helps with the noise and echo inside.

That little pedal tractor always attracts attention. Have had it since new and our 6 kids put tons of hrs. on it. Rod.

Rod,
It looks great. I see you have a silent helper on site. Mine is named Abduall. He can stand there all day and hold up a ceiling panal, and never complain, or have to take a "smoke break".
I built a 4car garage back in 91. It is now a 6 tractor disaster zone. LOL

Those panels with the holes do make a difference. I stayed with regular panels because the majority of the wall area is covered with 1/2 in plywood. The flat surface would make it easy to paint and change color sceme, easy to add to, no dents and quieter, and I should add cheaper. Rod.

My helper does;nt have a name but is damn good help like you said. Always did what I asked it to and not one complaint. I have a buddy that loaned me all the scaffolding and lift. I owe him a couple really, really big steaks. Rod

Hi Eric, you know I don't mind building things at all , sort of fun and ya don't have to wash your hands near as often. Rod

dang nice job wish I would take time to do mine instead of buying more Case maybe I should just have a sale and finish the inside of my shop Hmmmmm really though great job cnt

Hey hey know justa wait a dog-gone minute!!! I got dibbs on the 700 yeah hear!!! LOL Tom I sure like your herd.............I'd like to see ya say "who goes and who stays" Just my 11 cents worth. If you decide to thin-out the herd. I'd would do my best to try and talk ya outa one of them 700's ( and it don't need the dent either)God Bless

If you don’t mind I have some questions about your building.

I noticed you are putting purloins/nailers between the trusses and it looks like your trusses are 8ft apart.

Are you beefing up your bottom board to handle the load or modifying your trusses some how?
I have a 36x56 shop with trusses set on 8ft centers. The trusses are 2x6 over 2x6 and they told me I could not put a ceiling in my building. I have knee braces on every truss and they told me that was not enough to offset the weight of a ceiling.
If you don’t mind sharing a little more about your building it would be helpful to me.

Thank You

Rod,
Looks like you are doing a great job. I am sure you will really enjoy a climate controlled shop.
Nice looking sign too. Best of luck to you.
By the way, do you get Agri News or the Minnesota Farm guide paper at all? Someone down your way was selling a 1570 Spirit of 76 tractor very recently. Don't know if you heard of this tractor for sale or not. Maybe it is gone already, just thought I would let you know about it.

I was told the same thing. Then I talked to a fella that does a lot of pole building renovating. I had him come over and inspect the situation. He instructed me to install lots of plywood webbing on the trusses which beefed them up and every splice joint on the trusses were doubled up with 1/2 plywood and lots of screws. I am confident now this is plenty strong and got his nod of approval. In the one pic you can see some of the webbing that was being installed. Rod.

Na, you better keep buying more CASES, they'll be a lot easier to inspect when their all at one location. lol, Rod.

Rod I seen the plywood and figured that was for strength but couldnt see how it was placed.

Could you please show a picture of the plywood webbing, if its not too much trouble.

And did i understand you right that you put plywood over the webbing on the trusses or that you added extra plywood webbing between the webbing on the trusses and on both sides.

every builder that I know tells me i need to build another truss inbetween my trusses for a 4 ft spacing.

I have never heard of using plywood to strengthen a truss for the same purpose.

I will go up and take a pic of the trusses in the next day or two and post them. Thats the only way I know how to do it. Rod.
