This morning the rain stopped and I was able to work on the baler. Lots of degreaser and a pressure washer. Soap and water scrub all the dirt off of it. Looks great!
I cleaned the knotters real well, then got all the little rollers freed up. They were all stuck from sitting. The chains were tight as bow strings....didn't seem right. I did loosen them just a slight bit. Once I did that and lubed them the baler turned by hand nice and easy. Every fitting got a touch of grease, All the chains got lubed.
Taking the advice...I did trip the knotters and turn through the cycle by hand. Nothing hit, needles came into the chamber, plunger stop is free, hay dogs are loose. I hooked it up to my 961 and turned the baler at idle for quite a few revolutions.....tripped the knotters. Life is good! Brought the baler up to speed and let it run for a minute. Shut it down and hit the grease fittings on the plunger again.
Now for the problems...not too many. The shear bolt that is in the machine is a 5/16 grade 8. Is that right? The other issue is the overrun clutch and the flywheel. It seems that the flywheel has a bit of a wobble to it. Is there a bushing that is replaceable in there? Hope so. The overrun clutch was bolted with a regular nut and a lock washer. I think it needs to be a locknut, right?
Anyhow, the baler is now in my buddies barn(raining here) we are going to thread it Monday afternoon and rebale some broken bales to give it a try.
Case Nutty....I would love it if you could scan a couple of pages for me. I am working on a manual, but would like the threading procedure. Thank You very much!
