Hear is one to be figured out. I have a CASE CI four feet wide with high platform. On the back boss is stamped ASSIGNE 1 on the front boss is
stamped MASS under that is C 439. There is no serial number on the bell housing of the engine. The tractor was bought in Mass. My question is way does it not have a serial number from CASE?
Was this a Mass. State tractor and how can I find out if it is or not.

On the side of the BLOCK next to the head gasket there should be a flat rectangular surface. I think it is on the mag side and is about 1/2 inch by 1 inch. That is where C models had the serial number stamped not on the bell housing as S and D models did. Does that CI have a foot clutch and electric start? I think most CI's did. Very interesting piece.

Yes it has starter and foot clutch. The stampings that I referred to are on the bosses on right side or mag side right below the head front and back.
