Had some questions on the Tisco Flambeau Red
paint available through this site.
(description below)

Q. Can it be sprayed?
If so, what do you thin it with?

Q. Anyone try putting an automotive
clear coat over it?

Q. How much paint is necessary
to do an SC Case?

Thanks, Tom

Paint, Flambeau Red, 1 Gallon - From TISCO, providing OEM quality. High Strength air dry enamel with Alkyd resins to assure durability. Fade resistant, smooth uniform film characteristics. (Part No: TP140GAL)

There is far better paint than that. Alkaline paints are very prone to fading. CNH offers synthetic enamal which resists fading very well, flows nicely. It is an 8 to 1 mix and I use a abundant shot of hardner in each gun full, further reducing the ratio. The CNH Power Red paint is slightly reder than Flambeau. John Saeli can supply you with excellent quality paint also. You can order it from him. [email protected]

Do you have a number for Desert Sunset?

I have used Omni urethane on cars, tough stuff! Reasonable too.

I was going to go with Urethane, and have the Flambeau code for the Crossfire brand (Martin Senour)but it gets spendy with paint, the hardeners, thinners, gun cleaners, etc.
I have some clear coat left over from painting my truck, so was just wondering if I could use the Tisco and put the clear over it to make it move durable and fade resistant.
I'll try to read up on CNH paint.
Thanks.

If you spray with an alkyd enamel color, it should ONLY be clear coated witn an alkyd enamel clear coat! The reason being the alkd resins cure more slowly than automotive finishes. The automotive clear will dry(cure) resulting having solvents traped from the alkyd. As these try to excape you will end up with a wrinkle finish

I have sprayed alkyd enamel with harder and it worked for 9-11 years outside before the urethane clear started to delaminate.
day 1 spray alkyd with enamel hardener.
day 2 scuff and spray second coat.
day 3 scuff and spray urethane clear.
Day 4 scuff and spray second coat clear.
You have to rely on mechanical grip for the urethane clear to adhere to alkyd as urethane won't cross link to enamel.
I have never tried this on cast iron, only tin.
My primer is also 2 part or aged lacquer type.
No guarantee it will work for anybody else.

I was wondering about that. When I painted the top of my pickup cab with Acrylic Enamel, it was suggested I wait a month before I clear coated it. I did so, and it turned out okay.
Will try to read up onthe Van Syckle brand of paint. Thanks all.
