400 diesel radiator shutters

Atfer doing a little digging I have figured out that my 400 diesel supposed to have radiator shutters since it has the brackets for them. I have acquired a set of shutters but they didn't have the control cable that goes from the dash to the shutters. What I'm wondering is if anyone knows where I can get the control cable (case part #A8159) that has been discontinued? Also does anyone have a picture of how the bracket under the fuel tank is supposed to be mounted? I'm pretty sure mines wrong since it is pointed at the fuel tank and there's no way the cable would go through it. I'm also trying to figure out what holds the shutters closed since their spring loaded to stay open.

Thanks!

The bracket A8156 is the support for the dash, and headlight bracket. The loop should point to the outside away from the tank. It looks like the shutters would have been controlled from that bracket. Most 400"s had thermostats, so shutters wern"t needed. One of my 400"s had part of a cable in the bracket when I got it, it looked like a choke cable knob. I thought it was a throttle cable for the injection pump, it may had not been factory. The parts book shows the cable as flexable. You will probably have to make something to make it work. Every shutter I have seen is sprung to the closed position.

I have a "400" with the control end in tack I think, I will post you a pic of it,shutters were used to maintain engine temp when running not for starting, as to how they worked the control cable had a "turn-to-lock" so you could "hold" the shutters at any setting between fully closed and fully open cnt

have a 400 with factory shutters. used them to help warm up tractor in winter when grinding feed. temps in the low teens or lower.

Thanks for th information. Pictures of the knob end of the cable would be appreciated. I figured that I will have to fabricate a replica. I understand that the shutters are to help maintain the engine temp in cold weather. I am replacing the thermostat and water pump as part of the engine overghaul. While I don't plan on operating the tractor in cold weather at this time you never know what will happen. The biggest reason that I want to put the shutters back in is that I'm certain it had them from the factory. It has all the brackets on it and I can see the outline of the shutter mounting tabs in the paint on the radiator brackets. Im in the process of restoring this tractor and would like it to be as close to original as possible.

here are some shots of my "400" with shuuters, the cable is broke but the shutters are still intack

Thanks for the pictures. It is exactly what I needed. Oddly enough I was at OReilly's this afternoon and they are able to order a cable that is twist to lock as described. The handle looks similar to the one in the pictures. Not sure if the mounting hole is the same diameter but it is a place to start.
