2590 Transmission Parts Cost?

I'm looking at a project tractor. A 2590 with bad power shift. Could be minor, could be major, will take my gauges and test it tomorrow.

Anyhow, assuming that it is bad (but not disastrous, since the thing still rolls) about what would parts to rebuild a 2590 trans cost (seals, o rings, frictions, RPS 34 kit, etc.?)

Thanks,
JP.

A normal reseal, new bolts, replace worn plates etc would not be bad parts wise. It is a bunch of labor and best accomplished with the dolly to handle the rear assembly as it is rolled away from the front. The bad thing is if there is damage to the planetaries and drum assembly as these are very expensive to replace and some models , hard to find.

What are the symptoms, get back with the pressure readings and listen for strange noises.

I'm getting ready to go check out the 2590. I have a 2870 manual and a 4490/4690 manual, but no 2590 manual.

I know where the RPS valve is on the 2590 but I don't know where the 200 psi pressure regulator is.
Can somebody tell me please?

Also, does the PR1 (200psi regulator) CV2 control valve combination on the 2590 look like the one on the 4490/4690?

Thanks,
JP.

I have 1370 that I thought was cherry when I bought. I recently went through the rear end.

I had to put an up-graded cage in it (came from Elmer’s repair)

Both rear axle’s bearings on both sides

My pinion bearing had a chunk out of it.

A shifter fork was bad.

Replaced differential bearings

Put new brakes disc’s which includes seal kit both sides

Rebuilt powershift

Plus im sure I missed a few things

Bottom line was over $5000

I got screwed with a lemon in my case but, if your cage is good you could get by for a few hundred dollars to as high as $3000

Advise; price shop for bearings provided they Timken but use Case brand clutch disc’s

I checked what I could on the 1570. Here is what I found.

Basically, the pressures look OK but shifting into PS2 is always rough.

Was not able to check the pressure regulator.

All of the C1,2,3 checks were good, although at 175 psi they were a little below the recommended range.

The drive test was a different matter. When the clutch was pressed in it was OK. Changed into gear OK. Clutch pedal release resulted in a noticeably two stage movement of the tractor. With the clutch half way up the tractor would move slowly. When the pedal was the rest of the way up it would speed up more. Same in all gears.

Once rolling the Power Shift (PS) from PS1 to PS2 was noticeably jerky. Almost seemed like it slowed down a little and then grabbed. Shifting from PS2 to PS3 almost seemed to be too smooth. From PS3 back to PS2 was rough. From PS2 back to PS1 seemed OK.

When the clutch was pressed the tractor stopped, but I could definitely feel it wanting to reverse.

Otherwise the tractor is in rough shape. 8900 hours. No strange noises.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,
JP.

I'm looking at the parts manuals for my 2870 and the 2590 and noticing a lot of common part numbers.

It is kind of hard to tell, looking at on line parts manual for the 2590, just how similar are those two trannies?

Thanks,
JP.
