1960 Case 930 - New and Now

Here's a couple pictures of my 1960 Case 930. My dad bought it new in April, 1960 and it was our main tractor until 1973, at which time I bought it from him and he bought a new 1175. I still have it and it's a working tractor, mostly with a front-end loader for odd jobs around the place.

The black and white photo is from August 1960. The dealer Dad purchased it from asked if he could borrow it to display at the local ag fair and this picture is from the day they picked it up. The colour photo was taken this past October. I had taken the loader off to do an oil change and give her a cleaning.

It's probably the most reliable tractor we've ever had. I think Dad put a set of rings in it once, still has the original sleeves, and it had a bearing replaced on the pto that went bad as a result of not pushing the clutch in during stationery pto work. It's on its third set of tires and has went through two hour meters, the last one gave out about 5 or 6 years ago. The two meters total about 9,000 hours so I'd guess with the use since it's getting close to 10,000.

now that was built in quality!! to have a tractor in the same family for 52 years and so little repairs I can see that it was given great care to! thank you for posting and sharing the story cnt

Nice pictures and story thank You

If its possible could we see pictures of the loader and how the bracket and are made/bolted on.

Here's the tractor with the loader on. In the first picture at the top you can see the framework for the loader on the tractor. The front carriers for the frame bolt to the sides of the nose casting, the frame extends back to the axles and are bolted to them by U-clamps. There's also a support piece midway that hangs from the bellhousing bolts on back of the motor.

The loader itself has a matching frame. You simply drive into the loader which slides on the front mounting brackets until it reaches the back of the motor area. There's a large pin plus a large bolt on each side to lock it into place. Simply hook up the hydraulic hoses and it's ready to go.

The loader is made by Leon Mfg. in Yorkton, Sask, I think it's a 600 series. I bought it used back in the late '80's, come off a 900 Case.

Jason - that's the only truck like that I've actually seen, I've seen similar trucks in ads. The dealer that had it was only around for a handful of years before being replaced.

Nick - paint is original, she's showing her age. Always been kept inside.

Great pics. I would have been preaty proud to deliver tractors like that, with a truck lettered that good. Great piece of Case dealer history you have.

Here's another picture that shows more of the truck. It was pretty impressive - as I recall it was a regular tip-up truck hoist and a winch and cable pulled the tractor on (I could be wrong on the details, I was 9 at the time).

Jim,

Thanks for posting the history. That's a very nice 930.

Where are you located in Sask? I have relatives in the Regina and Cabri areas. My wife has relatives in the Prince Albert and Choiceland areas.
