I have recently purchased a 380 Case with David Brown Diesel Engine and am just learning what makes it tick. The clutch is extremely stiff. I have to stand on the clutch pedal to push it in. Does anyone know how to adjust it? Hope I don't have to take tractor main frame apart. Please respond to [email protected]
Thanks

Is it really stiff, or is it the weird angle it is at(pushing down as opposed to in)?

Normally they go pretty easy for the first half of the stroke, then get stiffer as you disengage the PTO clutch.

FWIW the 380 is basically an industrial 885 DB. Not sure what clutch they used though. It it a 2 stage? does it have PTO?

Assuming it is the exact same as an 885(2 stage), You should have 1"- 1.5" or so of take up on the pedal before anything happens other that tensioning a spring. The screw under the shaft just forward of the clutch pedal shaft on the left side is used for adjusting free play. If you don't have this free play you will ruin your throw out bearing by forcing it to run all the time(under 20 hours to trash one).

Hi RG, I think it is both stiff and the wierd angle it is at. I think pushing down is a problem for me. I'm not sure if it's a 2 stage (how do I know) or not. It does have live PTO. The tractor is at our hunting club property, so as soon as I can get up there, I'll check out the screw under the shaft just forward of the clutch pedal. Thanks for your reply.

The 2-stage pto means you push the pedal about 2/3 down and tractor stops moving, push it the rest of the way and the pto stops.

It's likely a 2-speed pto as well. Push down on the lever and it runs at 540 at rated engine rpm. Pull up on lever and it runs at 1,000 rpm at rated engine rpm. Or, with the lever in the up position you can throttle back to about 1,200 rpm and the pto will turn at about 540 - handy for light loads.
