Case SO clutch

I put a new clutch in my case tractor and fixed the broken peice on the pressure plate, it works just fine but the new clutch disc was thicker than the old one obviously and when I got done and started it the belt pulley was spinning while it was sitting there in neutral with the lever disengaged. The clutch is dragging a little bit, I have the adjuster backed off as far as it will go, I don't have to pull back on the hand lever to stop the tranny from spinning to put it in gear so that isn't a problem but I can't get the clutch to go " over center " and lock in the engaged position. The only thing I didn't do was put a gasket back between the engine and transmission, it is a wet clutch, I kinda thought about it and I wondered how important that gasket would be but I just put some gasket maker stuff in there, could that 4 or 5 thousandths, the thickness of the gasket give me enough room to fully engage the Clutch or is it just gonna have to wear in a little bit? Thanks for you help

The gasket is thicker than .005", but it sounds to me like you went the wrong way with the adjusting collar.

I was just throwing out a number when I said .005. I turned the adjusting collar clockwise, so it screwed in towards the flywheel, as far as I could get it to go. When I first put it back together I didn't adjust it at all I left it the way it was when I took it out. I couldn't even move the clutch lever because everything was so tight in there. After I adjusted it I can almost get it to fully engage but not quite, it will engage it just won't go over center and hold itself there.
