My husband and I just purchased a 1950 Case DC for 800$. He gets the "Fun" part of the restoration. I get to pull my hair out trying to find the parts and info that he needs.

I do have a manual on its way but it ain’t here yet.

I know it’s a DC and I think it might be a 4 as it has a wide front end. I haven’t been able to find any pictures of a DC with the same hydraulics. But most of the pictures I have found are 3-wheel DC’s.

Is there a difference in DC parts vs. DC4 parts? I have a manual ordered for a DC but I’ve also seen that there is one for a DC4... (somewhere...)

I also need to find out what to set the spark plug gap at.

I have a few parts that I am looking for (the current list subject to change) Brake Hub Seal
Brake Disc
Rubber boot on shift lever
Bushing seal and O ring on Control lever for Hyd. Pump

I have the local case dealer and the local tractor supply looking for parts. But I’m not holding my breath. Does anyone know a reliable place to get these parts online?

Trying to post pictures... In the meantime here are a couple links

Congratulations on your purchase; you are now the owners of a very reliable tractor.
I am the J.I. Case Collectors Association technical expert for the Case D series tractors. I'll do my best to assist you.
The first thing I would need to know is the tractor's serial number. It's on a tag on the dash beneath the battery box; be sure to look carefully as the fist digit is often obscured by the screw holding the tag to the dash. If the tag is missing, look on the left side of the engine block where it is bolted to the transmission case. This number is important as there were many changes to the D series over the years and the parts books, which are on line at CNH.com, by the way, tell where the changes fall.
Two great sources for parts are Don Livingston and John Saeli; both of them frequent this forum.

Kris, try John Saeli , google him at external_link.
John and Chris do a great job of finding parts for you. Enjoy the DC YOU ALSO CAN GO TO CNH.COM AND LOOK UP PARTS FROM CASE.

Spark plug gap is .025.

John Saeli has the gearshift boots for sure; he also has lining kits for brakes but serial number of tractor is crucial as there were several changes.

You can call me at 406-454-8758 any evening except Thursday.

I have looked for the tag on the engine block before and can"t find it.
The serial number that is zip tied to the dash is -5404077DC

Kris,
Welcome to the Case community. Your tractor is actually a DC-3. You're right in that the DC-4 has a wide axle, but it is non-adjustable in width. Your tractor has a wide front end, but the width can be adjusted by moving the axle halves and tie rods in or out. DC-3s can be like yours with an adjustable wide axle, have two wheels close together, or have a single front wheel in the center. As for as parts and instructions, there's no difference between the 3 and 4 (other than the front end parts of course). Here's a link to a D-Series manual for you to use until yours comes.

My internet is being too slow to upload photos to
this site so here is a link to my album (some are
still loading)

I have been to the Case parts website online.
Looking at the expanded view of the Brake system,
I can't find the "hub seal". The part that "holds"
the seal (and the bearing). Possibly I'm looking
at it wrong? My husband looked at it too and said
that it "should" be the piece between 5884A and
4048AB It shows it as a flat plate and ours isn't.
I'm thinking that neither of those parts are
actually on our tractor because the part we need
the seal for looks more like 2906AA but I don't
see any kind of a seal listed there.

I hope that made sense!
I will try loading the schematic up to my album
but with as slow as I am loading today it might
take a little while.

Can you see the part you need on Figure 072, which includes the shaft, etc.? It's two lines above the one you posted.

May be this info can help: Seal for diffshafts = 2.75X3.75X0.50=National nr 55004
John Saeli can supply many Case parts.
Fitting needs a special tool to protect the seal lip from damage when passing the shaft splines and it is a must that the seal is driven square to the shaft.

Kris:
I just looked at your slideshow and you have a DC3;
all row crop DC's and SC's were 3's. to be a "4" the axle had to be solid/nonadjustable.
Something that intrigues me is the red paint on the engine and radiator; I have a hood that is that same color and I'd love to know why Case did that.
I see several things that should be changed if you don't want to offend the correct police but that is entirely up to you.

Suggestions are always welcome...

I thought that the red paint was just the flambeau red faded?

I had a couple of calls in to different places for parts. The closest store actually told me they couldn't get me most of the parts because case discontinued them some time ago.

The Case dealer called me back and can have all the parts their within three days.

We were discussing the three point since someone cut part of it off. Not sure how much that would cost to replace (if we could). Does someone happen to have a picture of it? If we could see pictures we could probably make it.We also have to change the seat since the springs they put in are in the way of the pto.

Great Pictures Jansen. Gives me an idea of what I have to look forward to when we are done!

o.k. we are a little confused about the 3 point... Could someone explain how it is supposed to work when it is back to original?

I was out looking at the paint job today and it was definately flambeau red at one time but someone painted over it with a different red.
