SC 4'th gear problem

Bought a 1950 SC that hasn't run in 20+ years. After Freeing up the engine we decided to pull start it. The ring gear is bad, and thats a project for another day!!. Put it in 4'th gear and engaged the clutch. The tires turned maybe a quarter turn and it was running!! It popped out of gear, and now won't go back into 4'th. All the other gears work fine, but 4'th gear just grinds. I've pulled back on the cluth, stopping the belt pulley, and rocked it back and forth but it just won't go back into 4'th. Any ideas before i have to pull the top off the gear housing? Thankyou much...

my guess is it bent the shifting fork when it jumped out of gear from the shock load the bad ring gear,(am guessing it jumped a tooth)put on 4th gear while pull starting it just a guess CNT
