310 Utility Dash Throttle

Is this hand throttle the correct part for the 56 310 Roundnose Utility? I can't tell from the on line parts diagram? Anyone have a good photo?[/img]
 
Yup it's the wright one, however you may want to replace that cotter pin with a roll pin. The holes in the shaft and lever will egg out with the cotter.
 
Yes, it is the right lever. ACG is correct on the roll pin but if the original pin was drilled out the lever & shaft bore will likely be slopped out anyway so the cotter pin.

Thanks guys. I am going over this new to me tractor and sorting out some things. That hand throttle is already a sloppy as you described so that made me question the setup. The cotter is giving it too much play so the new pin will help.
 
If you can locate a slightly larger roll pin, you can carefully drill out the lever and the shaft to tighten things up. You can't imagin how many cuss words us Case guys have expelled trying to remove that little pin when it was rusted in. LOL
 
One thing that both ACG & I neglected to point out, the original lever is a non-ferrous pot metal similar to aluminum. The only aftermarket levers I have seen are a non-metallic composite material. So yours may not be original, can't tell from the pic.

The original roll pin was 5/32"x1-5/8". I seem to remember the shaft as 1/2", if so the next larger very common size pin 3/16" might work for you. Doubt I would drill a larger hole than that.

But before you do anything, how far can you pull the lever shaft straight up? If you can pull it up at all without pretty strong spring tension, the shaft tension spring 1 is broken/adrift or more likely the friction plate support 2 is broken. They break right at the roll pins. Either will put lots of slop in the lever/shaft end.

I should review & correct before I post, make that shaft size 3/8" or tops 7/16". I've been down the drill a bigger roll pin hole road and I decided 3/16" is max I would consider.

You should have seen me with the easy ride seat. Some engineer really went all in with the roll pins on that. I got it done but it was a two cigar adventure.
