1370 differential advice needed

I finally started tackling the job of replacing ALL of the fiber discs in the rear end on my 1370.

To give a little background from an earlier post, I’m the guy that changed oil in his thought to be cherry 1370. Only to find out 60hrs later all of the fiber discs in the tractor are eaten away.

What I am finding is a major malfunction behind every bolt.

I have ran into a paradox/dilemma when I pulled the rear axel shafts I noticed the planetary sun shafts were eaten up.

BUT… the planetary gears are in excellent shape except for one gear on the LH side.

HOW could this happen and NOT do the same to ALL the planetary gears in the cluster.

PLUS there’s NO metal in the tractor or the oil from the apparent planetary sun shaft failure.

I talked to the original owner and got the low down on this tractor before I bought it. I even talked to the dealer that serviced the tractor for the last 30 yrs. When it was about 5 -6 yrs old the top gear/high gear broke. The dealer supposedly fixed everything that needed fixing.

My thoughts are the sun shafts were thought to be damaged but reusable, when perhaps they were not.

Any comments and suggestions would be helpful.

I also want to know if you guys think the one speckled planetary gear is worth the risk of using or should I

1) Buy a new one
2) Find a good used replacement

The rest of the gears are like new with NO noticeable wear.

Also what would you guys suggest?
1) Run new sun shafts against those gears
2) Find good used sun shafts

The pitting on that gear tooth will never get any better. At our transmission shop we see sun gears & planetary gears like that all the time. Usually only one or two teeth will show pitting, and the rest are ok. Better look for new or good used stuff. If you continue to use that, it will only keep shedding metal that will further contaminate the oil, and thus all the other items in the gear train.

You have several options and all are up to you and what it costs to do. You can re-use that gear as is. You should be able to turn the gear around and re-use (will run on other side of teeth). You can call Case and get a new on (possibly big $$$!). You can call someone like Worthington Ag Parts and get a good used one ('bout $100-$150). Or someone like me might just have a good one and can sell it to ya. There is a serial number cutoff of 10032467. I am not sure what I have but can check. If I have what you need I'd listen to any offers! Check the link for prices.

Just reverse your planetarys to the other side. You can do the same with the sun gears if they are ok on the other side.Be sure to flush the suction screen out to get rid of the brake pad material as much as possible.

I have purchased parts from Worthington Ag Parts before but they have been fan blades and water pumps.

Does anyone have any experience with sun shafts and disc brake parts from Worthington?

Are they OE quality or just replacement parts?

My transmission # is 10056380

My wife told at noon she doesn’t want this thing done right.
