Flambeau red vs power red

I am painting a 1270 to its orginal color and I am not sure if the orange/red on the tractor is the flambeau red or power red. What is the difference between the two colors? What color do I use for this tractor? The sheet metal will be the desert sunset! Also can you still get decals and where is the best place to purchase them?

Thanks!

I think that power red is more of a lighter orange than the flambeau red. I think that the Maple Hunter sells decals for them. Call them at this number 812-894-9759

Flambeau Red is more orange and resembles AC orange. Power Red is a deeper orange, and appropriate to your 1270. Buy your paint from CNH. It is a synthetic enamel which resists fading well and when you liberally add a hardener it will come out looking like glass. This paint is a 8 to 1 mix and the synthetic hardner makes it flow and adhere very nicely. Most of the decals will be available from CNH, but pricy.

Adirondak, I think you have it backwards. The Flambeau is a brighter redder flame orange more red than orange.
Power Red is duller and more orange than red.
Gregg, Power Red looks ok with the White hoods on the newer tractors but looks pretty sad with the Desert Sunset hoods which is already a dull color. 1270s were painted both ways depending on serial number. If you have a Power White hood, use Power Red. If you have a Desert Sunset Hood, use Flambeau Red.

Does the 770 in my previous post look sad with Power Red? I think we have a difference in definition of "deeper orange. Are these two round nose 300s sad with Power red paint on them The difference is hard to determine with the eye. Also realize that the original Desert Sunset was much tanner than present, but still carries the same name. Quality of paint and shien make the diff.In how a less than a pureist, views a tractor. As stated in previous posts, It's up to the owner, and how he wants to present his tractor. The 770 was painted two years back and sets outside during the summer months and the paint still shines like new. This pic was taken a month ago when we hybernated them for the winter. To each his own. Acg.

OK. Opinions aside about which red is redder or which red is orange, the man asked which was ORIGINAL for a 1270 with Desert Sunset tins.

Flambeau ALWAYS goes with Desert Sunset to be original and Power Red ALWAYS goes with Power White to be original. I'm not the paint police.
I'm just saying that's the way Case did it and he asked what was original.

Now if we talk opinions, my opinion is they do go better that way. It doesn't mean I don't like the looks of your 770. Its a sharp looking tractor. In fact I've saved many of your pictures you've posted in the past and enjoy them when I look at my album. Doesn't mean I don't see a difference in the shade of red and I happen to like Flambeau better with Desert Sunset as Case intended.

Maybe I should have said that in my opinion the Power Red doesn't look "as nice" instead of "sad". Wasn't even your tractor I had in mind when I wrote that. It was a tractor posted on the photo ads I had just looked at that spurred my word choice. The cast is too light and the tins too dark. Sad because he spent so much money and got it so wrong....in my opinion. Great! Now somebody else will be upset with me.

Brad isnt the only one that keeps your pics,I sure do enjoy them, and these jewels above, well to me they are nicer then diamonds!
I think the only one that wouldnt agree with me,is my wife, for some reasons they are good friends!! :)

Their all orange, just different shades including Ac orange. What color of orange tractor do you want to drive? LOL enough said . Have a Merry and a Happy holiday to each of you.

Well put ACG.
I have tractors that were originally flambeau red that are painted with Case Power Red,Van Sycle flambeau red and PPG flambeau red.I just don't see that much difference in them.
I believe I am going to use the Case Power Red from my local Case/IH on the next tractor or implement I paint.
ACG,I have also enjoyed your pictures of nice equipment with scenic farms. Nick
