Hi Guys
I have a Case 885Xl and the power steering and all hydraulics have failed, i have changed fluid in back end and the hydraulic filter and still no joy.
I removed the pump from near the wheel and it seems ok when turned by hand it pumps oil.

When should the gear inside the gearbox be turning i started the tractor at tickover and the large gear doesnt seem to be turning should it turn all the time or when the hydraulics are operated ?
kind regards

ash

any help much appreciated

The gear that drives the pump should turn all the time the engine is running irrispective of weather the hydraulics are being operated or the main clutch is disengaged. If it is not I would suggest the first place to look is the PTO drive hub in the centre of the traction clutch, also while you have the pump out check the key in the pump gear, it may pump oil by hand, but under load is a different story and I have had to replace them. You may get a better response on the International Harvester forum as your "Case" 885XL is actually a Doncaster, England built International Harvester that got "badge engineered" after the Case/IH merge in 1985.
