i have a 1969 case 195 garden tractor that just this year started losing power when mowing. sometimes it barely makes it through thicker grass or up hills. any ideas?

Try opening the main jet adjusting screw on the carburetor. If you have a filter it may be getting clogged. Hal

Make sure your engine hasn't sucked in dirt and grass blocking air flow to the engine. Its hard to see it behind the fan shroud. Hal

Isn't get hot is it. I had a cub cadet that got that way and I finally blew the head gasket or something. Pushed it into the shop and bought a Wheel Horse.

Does it only want to die in tall grass "only" after the engine gets hot? I that is the case I agree that the valves may be too tight. Otherwise sounds like the governor is not kicking in.
