Hello Agriking,

Welcome to the Case forum. You will find a lot of really great folks here that can answer most anything about Case equipment.

I have a very small collection compared to the rest of these guys.

They all three run but the L has some issues!

From left to right 1938 L with electric start, 1930 C, 1938 CC-3 (with RC paint).

I am pretty new to these Cases, I did'nt realize how small the C was compared to the L. I kinda want one now :)

Hi dboll. It appears that there is hope for you afterall. You have a very impressive list of Case junk. I noticed that you listed a Case 950 windrower. I'll try to keep this story short. When the 950 came out my dad who was a Case dealer ordered one in. Most farmers said that hay would never dry in a windrow. To show that it would, He decided to demonstrate the 950 to anyone who was receptive. He decided that I was old enough to run the machine. I think I was about 12. We took the 950 out in a large field on our family farm which was already 1/2 mowed and told me to get use to running it. In NY we have hills and as you know the 950 was a belt driven machine. For those who don't know, Steering was acomplished with 2 levers like a bulldozer, except, the levers also had a nutral and reverse built in. the right lever was called the trim steer lever it would make minor steering corrections without disingaging the wheel drive. That was great until you had to make a bigger correction. Then you pulled one of the levers back to nutral. If you were going down hill the wheel in nutral over ran the other and you turned the wrong way. I learned how to feather the levers into reverse just enough to go in the direction I wanted. As there was no easy way to truck this machine from farm to farm, we drove it. These feathering skills took on an all new meaning on a narrow highway. We did sell a number of 950s and a lot of 650s. Later on we sold lots of Hesston 6450s because of dads forsight.

i have a 44 sc on full steel, 37 cc on full steel, 38 rc, 49 dc with an adjustable wide front, case #46 2 row planter, 3 bottom case plow, 2 row culivator for the sc, b12 windrower, and lots of case literature

Agriking,

Welcome to the forum! I hope you find it as useful and friendly as I have. My tractors are 1175 and 1070 and 430 still used for farming.(I will never have a post 1984) My collector tractors are Big 600 and 500, Super 400, dc3 LP, dc3, dc4, d, do. Tractors awaiting work are C, VC. My favorite Case tractor is always the next one (so my wife says).

Case Guy, I have to wonder how many on here are farming today and how many are just reliving 50 year old memories? My Dad was a very good grain/dairy /livestock farmer who served in the US Air Force from 1954-58 as an aircraft recip engine mechanic ( they didn't let just any idiot work on engines, failed engines cause crashes) worked for his former employer for a year then farmed from 1959 to 2006, he's retired now and lives in town. He started with a us A jd which he junked a few years later. He then bought a 50 dc in 62 a 50 77 Oliver in 64 a 401 super diesel in 67, 830com in 73 and a 970 in the late 70's.He cut his teeth cultivating corn with a dc with a 4 row and he will tell you it drove like a truck and there were better cultivators than Case.I invite you to call him (ph 507-368-2079)and tell him the machinery is only as good as the man running it because he is honest enough to admit Case made some good and some poor machinery as he was very good at setting machinery to work.I like Case stuff but in many areas they were not up to the competition and the sales results show this. Dad had an IR picker when I was young, it husked ok but was harder to keep on the row as the snoots were too short and the gathering chains were not up to handling increased planting rates, MM was #1 followed by NI. I have a 200 and 230 baler, the 200 was not the best in it's day but I plan on baling a little with it this summer. Case sold virtually no corn planters around here, mostly jd. The 200-281 rakes were far inferior to a NH 55/56 ect.The mowers were not as good as IH. As for tractors when Case introduced the 400 they were caught up but it was 5 years too late. We find them to be alot of tractor for the money and usually easy on fuel, Dad always said " Case never built a bad engine". EH hasn't been built for 45 years, the eh rear mount cultivators were not the best and no one since then has built a cultivator with the steering linkage required to use it on an eh tractor. I am not the farmer my dad was but my crops and cattle look good so it bothers me a little when it is inferred that we don't know how to run equipment or farm for that matter ever stop by my farm or meet me personally?. Feel free to stop by and see for yourself. Maybe I will be raking with a 170rake on an SC baling with my 2oo spraying with my 830ck or green chopping with my 210 chopper. I like using old case stuff if feasible in my operation. I am not so arrogant as to think Case was the best of everything. If you were to have the best line of machinery it would be of several colors. I realize many here are fondly recalling their past years on the farm but they need to realize that farming has changed and so has the machinery and those actively farming today need to keep with the times and that once viable farm machinery has become out dated and saved mainly as collector items. I am among a few that actually tries to keep this stuff working instead of just looking at it and I have saved more than one piece from going to scrap.I had 9 tractors and an equal number of implements at 2008 Case expo and plan on taking some stuff to the JICCA convention this summer. So yeah ,maybe there is hope for me after all!

Don't have a bunch, but I sure like Case.

I enjoy almost all that is spoken here, there is so much history, and if they are tales, most of the time I enjoy them.Would I put someone on the spot,do you farm now,or,are you in business as a dealership,no,never,do you have to prove to me anything,no.You know why,I can sift through this. And I will never be disrespectful. And I expect those of us in here to be the same.As you never know who you are talking too.He or she might know much more then you think you do.And walked a long way longer then you ever think you have.
So thank you,to you all,as you enlighten and brighten my day, whoever you are.....

Hey Toolz...nice 1175. I just bought one and it ain't home yet. Hope to pull at also. Those DEEP TREADS tires are the one of best tires i have seem but never used. The man with the 1175 I bought has a mated pair 18.4 of DEEP's with a 1/2 of tread in the middle,, sitting it the shed. He wants 500 for the pair. What do you think??
Don L.

Update...I called the man with the 1175 and he sold it to another, "cash in hand" he says. My certified bank check was in the mail. Oh heck. No tractor for me. Not happy.

Don- I have replaces the bias in the pic with a pair of radials- the pulls I go to allow them now, and there's a big difference. On some tracks, the bias would work, but on most, I would get my butt kicked. After putting on the radials, I placed 2nd in the last two pulls of the year. I sold the pair in the first pic for $400 (20.8-38). This pic I have Goodyear radials- not my first choice, but they were $300 installed. The best bias, if you can't use radials, are probably the Firestone Super All Traction 23 degree. I recently sold 2 pair of them (18.4-38) with about 30 percent tread, for $550 per pair. The Deep Treads are probably the 2nd best bias, next to the S.A.T.'s, but opinions vary. I'm no pro, but if you have any more questions, I'll try to help.

Don- That sux. Keep looking- they are out there. The one in this pic is in the photo adds here. It's in Macomb, IL for $4000. Doesn't sound bad, and it's an open station also. Date on the ad is 3/1 if it's still available. Good luck.

First collector tractor was my grandfather's 1952 VAC with the optional 34 inch rubber. The first parade it went through he was there to see it. I was the last time he saw it before he died. I later sold it to a kid who wanted to become a member of our club and he brings it every year. Just purchased a 1945 Case SO and starting to work on it.

Case SC, 500 Diesel, 930 Diesel Western Special, 1370. Love that 500 diesel the most. Great plowing tractor. Bob
