I have a Case 801-b diesel that loses power and shuts down when running. it starts sputtering and the engine quits on me. it starts right back up but it still sputters and shuts down again. Im not sure what the problem could be. Can anyone give me a solution to this problem?

Might have to remove hood but i would crack open the final filter bleed screw when it starts to miss Stop engine an if you get a presurised stream there while you crank engine an no bubbles..all is well with the fuel system. There should be about 15-20 psi there. Be careful.If engine misses after you put it no a full load for extended period you might want to check valve clearance . Also there might be a buildup of carbon on the intake valves from many years of use that will expand an cause valves to not close properly when under load.

The line attached to the top of the tank is a fuel return, not supply. A pluged return line could cause this problem, but where did something come from to plug it? Air entering the system from the supply line coming from the bottom of the tank could be a cause of the problem also, but I think moisture,condensation or contamination is more likely.

You might take a strong flashlight and just look to see what"s drifting around in the bottom of the fuel tank, clogging up the line. Diesels are easy, it"s either fuel, or air.....

Hay Drew are you one of those people who carries fuel to your tractors in 5gal cans? you have two seperate posts here which could have the same culpret. (water and dirt in your fuel)I'm not downing you as many of us have 5gal fuel storage tanks. LOL(gas can charley's)

it cant be that because first of all, i put new fuel filters in it 2 months ago. second of all, there is a screen on my 5 gal fuel tanks. i dont think thats the problem

is it possible that the injectors or fuel pump could be going on it?

Drew,It could be picking up air in the fuel system.The fuel pickup tube in the tank could have a crack causing it to suck air.Check for cracks or loose fittings.Top off your diesel tank then bleed the filters and injector lines.
