My friend bought a Case 1740 Skid Steer but didn't get a manual or information for it. How much and what type of hydraulic fluid does it require?

Case skid steers usually take 10w30 engine oil for the hydraulic. You have to add HTO bought at a Case dealer. Only if you replace hydraulic oil with new 10w30.

Cowman, what you are saying is absolutely true for the newer hydrostat machines, the unit in question is the old variable speed clutch type drive and a good grade hydraulic oil is all that is required, nothing fancy, no HTO or engine oil required. There are no hydrostat units for the HTO to protect. mEl

Case's Hy Tran Ultra is good for the chaincases, there are level plugs (1/4 pipe) on the chain case down low, fill to the top plug level
