Case 630 Diesel Black Smoke

I just finished replacing the head gasket on my Case 630 diesel tractor. As per the manual, I have bled the fuel lines, set the valves at .014 cold, and the tractor seems to run fine (no missing or sputtering and normal power). But when the engine is cold at start-up, lots and lots of black smoke comes up through the exhaust until the engine warms up, more smoke than did before the head gasket job. Any ideas as to what might have changed from before and after the head gasket job?

take the air breather off and see how it does with straight air.. in the Shop .. What is the History before you put a headgasket on the 630 ,,,?????, flooding injectors ? injection pump ????... Bad timing ,? keep in mind Diesels do smoke when cold , But when Hot and gently working the stack should be nearly smoke free , but You are probably not a novice and you know that .. I Dunno ,.. we Got some real good talent in the net Here .. perhaps Thy will Chime in .....

Today's Featured Article - Recollections of a John Deere GP - by Charlie Cook. I grew up on my dad's 280 acre general farm in Western Michigan. Dad's only tractor when I was very young was the old GP. My first recollection of this tractor was when dad allowed my brother and myself to ride on the tractor with him driving. One of us would sit on the left fender (away from the clutch) and other would sit on the gas tank and hold onto the crankcase breather pipe. ... [Read Article]
