580B drain plugs and oil fluids ????

Just got my first Case every. It is a 1974 580B backhoe/loader. Bought it from a gentleman who used it at his farm/ranch and it only has 1500 hours on it. No leaks anywhere; pedals, front and back buckets, all sheet metal, decals, etc. are all in original condition. Minor surface rust only. Starts and runs great.

Want to change all the oil/gear fluids. There are 4 drains underneath the tractor. Know that

-- the one on the engine oil pan is for the motor oil.

-- also, that the one at the very rear is for the transmission and differential (this one has water in it).

-- the drain plug which is second from the rear is for the Torque Tube fluid.

HOWEVER, I have not been able to figure out what the third from the REAR plug is for?????????? From the front, it is the next one to the engine oil pan. I loosen the plug and there is thin fluid, but I don't want to drain it because I don't see where to fill it.

Have the Operator manual, but it does not explain this. Any assistance will be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your assistance. David

The one right behing the engine drains the Torque Converter compartment and will refill itself as the engine is run, just run and add oil till the level stabilizes. You can use Hy Tran Ultra in that compartment. The old recommendation would have been TCH. Working through that front plug you can also remove a 1/8 in. allen plug in the TC unit to drain it also, just turn the engine till it comes into the opening. mEl

Thank you so much for your quick and good response. I post on other forums and usually get responses but few answer the question asked. You were right on the money.

Thanks again. God bless. David
