Yesterday, I did a bonehead thing. I was running my 530 Case and ran it out of fuel. Tank is bone dry. I've heard you need to "prime" the system when you run it out of fuel. I have no idea how to do this. I pulled the tractor to the barn and have not tried to crank it for fear I would do damage. I've had this tractor for 30 years and this is the first time I've run it out of fuel. Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks - Glenn

Roosa-Master is self priming in reply to GlennEd, 07-14-2009 08:19:31
Yes, the fuel is gravity feed. Just bleed the fuel filters, crack the inlet line at the fuel injection pump. When fuel flows without bubbles, it's bled. Tighten bleeder and line. It's ready to start. There is NO need to bleed the injection lines going to the injecters. That's why it's called self priming.

Glenn, I assume this is a diesel. If this is a gravity feed fuel assembly like my 630 diesel, pour some diesel in the tank, then crack the inlet line at the fuel pump. wait till fuel starts dripping then retighten. You may want to try it now or you can crack all four injector lines at the injectors and start cranking till fuel appears (don't crank for more than 10 sec at a time though). retighten the injectors and she should fire up. If you have the charge pump set up it should also have a manual primer.

if its gas, pour some in and start cranking.

best of luck.

Thanks so much for the reply. It is a diesel and I think gravity feed, but I'm not sure. How can I tell and where is the manuel primer if it is a "charge" pump. Thanks again

Truth be told, my Dad bought this tractor new in '63. It came my way 30 years ago. His word of wisdom to me was, "never let it run out of fuel." He never did nor did I until yesterday. My mistake was assuming I had about half a tank of fuel. I was in a hurry since it was about to pour down rain and I wanted to get the job done. Nor have any of my friends or neighbors had this happen. If it had, I would have visited them rather than come here. Golly, I guess I'm not as smart as you.
