I'm looking for ideas how to lower the gear ratio in a Case LA. These machines were made to get over the ground, but I want to have fun in the tractor pulls. The gearing is too high even in 1st gear. Anyone have some ideas? Thanks Kelly

You might look into a 600-900 and see if you can convert to a 6 speed or just use some of the parts. It would pull best with 18.4 x 34 rubber.

Kelly, I own a machine shop in Roscoe, Illinois. We make custom gears & shafts for drag racing cars that need trans upgrades. We change the gear ratio's if needed. We also use high strength alloy steel that seems to hold up better than original in most cases. I have been interested in making tractor gears for some time. If you would like to discuss further, please send me an e-mail. I grew up on a farm, and my father-in-law is an avid Case collector. Doug.

Pitfalls of Tractor Engine Rebuilds - by Chris Pratt. The first pop after you have put the machine together with your own hands is exciting and pleasing. The whole experience can be marred if one moves too fast and makes too many assumptions that they can just use "as is" some parts they should be closely scrutinizing and possibly attended to. In such cases, rework makes what could have been a fun project turn into an irritant or even a nightmare. Minor Irritants To give you an example of an minor but irritating proble
