Contact Don Livingston (manifold@smig.net). I believe he has factory instructions on how to complete the conversion. I think there are some modifications that have to be made to the flywheel among other things.

Joe,

Want to add that the detroit motor didn't just bolt right up. There was a company that made a kit and there was an adapter plate to bell housing to engine. I know several people out there has blue prints for the conversion.

Joe, Caseman-d sure has neat pictures, never saw one with a 6-71 but in the 50s there were alot of L and LAs repowered with 3-71 GM, went from 4 bottom to six bottoms and never seemed to bother the drive train, only the ears of the operator AND most of his neighbors.

I dont know anything about your bolt in question and those are some great pics of a 6-71 with a turbo to boot. I understand that John Deere took some Case LA's and installed some GM 3-53 in them back in early 50s? and test run them. Appearently they came to the conclusion that the farmers that used them were in need of more horsepower than was currently available. John Deere knew the 2 cylinders were at the end of their HP chain and they began the task to design new 4 & 6 cylinder tractors.

Joe,

Some one posted these pictures on another sight that I saved. I had posted these once before. Not sure I know the story but someone may. I understand this guy owns a trucking company and he pays his drivers a finders fee for finding old tractors for him. True or false I'm not sure. Here are the 2 pictures I have.

I've seen it pull, great show, it has a hard time with the clutch. The guy that has the tractor is a good fellow, with lots of friends . He helped me out with my 4-71 LA. Did you notice the turbo!

Joe, I have had several of these tractors with Detroit 3 and 4 cylinders in them. All came from out west or Canada, most of the conversions were done in Nebraska by Egging Co. I have a late LI Case with a 6-71 Detroit, 250 horse. Just waiting for new fenders to come, and paint. Tractor will be for sale when complete, if your interested you can call me at (989) 751-4129, or e-mail me at this address.
