Trany Fluid for Case 311

I have a Case 311 and I need to replace
the fluid in for forward and rear of the transmition. I have drained all teh oils from both sections.
The front section is filled from a plug near the stick shift feeds the hydrolic pump for the three point hitch. What Oil do I use to fill this case and how much to I put in?
The rear section is filled from a larger plug in front and to the left of the seat.
It has a dip stick to indicate the fill level but I also want to know what oil I should use and its capacity.
I was considering using universal tractor fluid which can be used as lubricant and hydrolics however I wondered what would be best.
Does anyone have the asnwers?

Factory oil for torque tube is SAE 10w motor oil, alternate hydraulic oil or ATF type A. Some service manuals list SAE 10w30 motor. I use the a general pupose hydraulic oil, same as your universal tractor fluid. Capacity ~12-14 qts, varies some with optional triple range gear train and/or hand clutch pack. Fill to high level on dipstick with hitch raised.

Factory oil for transmission is SAE 90. Capacity ~28 qts, fill to mark on dipstick and no higher.

Thanks Joe,

If by torque tube you mean the forward section with a filler nut just beside the stick shift
then I have it right. ( I have a triple range)So if it ok to use universal tractor oil in that section I will do so. There is no dip stick in that section that I can find so how do I know it has been filled to the right level?

As far as the rear section of the transmiton/ axel, it does have a dip stick and we can fill to the mark. Can we use universal tractor oil here as well or will its viscosity be too low?

I thank you

Torque tube is hydraulic sump. You need a low viscosity oil, tractor universal hydraulic oil sold at places like TSC is suitable.

Dipstick is easy to fabricate if your's is missing.

Sorry, I skipped over your last sentence re transmission oil viscosity.

You should use a gear oil there, SAE 90 or similar viscosity in the rear section.
