In order to split the D17 between the transmission and the torque tube, you need to remove the hand clutch control shaft from the torque tube. To remove the shaft, look on the left side of the torque tube and remove the snap ring from the left end of the hand clutch shaft. You may have to remove the cover from the left side of the transmission in order to see the snap ring. After you remove the snap ring, go to the right side and pull the shaft and lever out of the torque tube. The tractor will now come apart. I hope that this helps. Gordon

Thanks Gordon. That sounds exactly like whats holding me up. Just to be clear, is the snap ring on the outside of the tractor? I'll look tomorrow and give it a shot.
