I got an allis b and and i was wondering how you can tell a BE engine form a CE engine the numbers on the block is AM-2916-70

That's not the engine serial number. The engine number will be more difficult to read. I think that it is on the left (as viewed from behind) of the block where it bolts to the torque tube.

That is the casting number. Look over on the side on the top of the engine flange just up from the top bolt that holds the engine to the torque tube/bellhousing. I didnt know they cast a AM 2916-70 If it is AM 2916-10 it might be just in front of the gas tank on the block just below the head. Kinda hard to read with the gas tank on.
