Can anyone tell me if AC ever put a 6 cylinder gas engine in a D17. Have seen a couple but wonder if they were converted. Thanx in advance

The 17 diesel and 19 gas and 19 diesel all used a 262 cubic inch engine. It is easy to install the
19 gas motor into the 17 diesel. I think this
might have been what you saw.

No, AC only put the 226 four cylinder in the gas burning D-17's. The diesels of course had the six cylinder engine. AC did build cotton pickers based on the D-17 tractor that had a six cylinder gas engine, but that was just for extra power to run the cotton picker. They weren't the kind where the picker was meant to be taken off so the tractor could be used for other uses, so it's possible somebody might have worked one of those over. However, it's most likely just a D-119 engine put in a D-17 or else someone took a D-17 diesel and converted it to gasoline.

i've seen a d-17 converted to run on a 292ci general motors engine. it is similiar to the engine used in the combines, and i'm told that it bolts up pretty nice, except the oil filter gets in the way.
