Can anyone tell me who made the engine for the Allis-Chamblers HD-6 crawler? Also what is it's modle number? I am looking for a new or used engine block for this machine, and would like to get a quote on it. Thanks.

The odd dozers, HD-5, 7, 9. . . had Detroits. When AC figured out people were bypassing Allis for engine parts they bought... BUDA. The interesting thing was BUDA wasn't a bargain for AC. When allis purchased them the engines were hand made they weren't production, mass produced. Allis lost on the deal. Cockshutt didn't get to use BUDA anymore. Then Oliver picked up Detroit. Funny how stuff works out.

HD-10,-14,-20 all had Detroit's(GM). Early 50's GM bought Euclid and AC decided to produce their own engines rather than buy engines from competitor. Enter BUDA exit GM. Early HD-6s had BUDA and Allis Chalmer markings on the engines. All HD-6s had the 344 cu in 4 cylinder engines model HD344. Later called 6000 and 7000 (turbo). I have heard stories on the net that BUDA is back in business.
I have seen HD-6s converted to Detroit 3-53 power should be an easy swap with good power and parts availability.

Good Luck,
Lee
