If you had a very rough time getting the pins out, the shoe, or shoes, could possibly be bent at the bottom. On mine the rod was wore where the shoes were riding, then when pulling the pin, the ears on the shoe came with it, bending the bottom pivot points (ears) around the drum. You should be able to look into the inspection hole on bottom to check this. I had to do extensive beating with punch through the inspection hole until it cleared the drum. Even when nothing is bent I believe, one has to come out before the other, can't recall which, just remember it was a tight fit. Had the new linings installed at implement where I puchased them. It cost like $8 per, but they had the rivet tooling to do it right, they even removed the old linings.
