Wonder if two 1960 batteries had as much cranking amps as one 2003 battery? Thanks for the info.

book says the starter draws about 500 amps. remember it is 175 cubic inches. I would think a very heavy duty automotive battery would be plenty to crank the little diesel. assuming you have good starter, connections and wiring.

Pre-heat? Not sure what that is, but I'm sure ours doesn't work. I thank y'all for your input. I've ordered an Operators manual. Thanks again.
