Numbers 1 thru 96 Allis Chalmers "B" tractors were built in 1937. It don't have electric start does it? A guy down the road as an early one too. It doesn't have electric start or even a place to mount a starter. My '38 has electric start though.

ALLIS "B"S DIDN'T HAVE ELECTRIC START UNTIL 1940 WHEN THEY CAME OUT WITH THE "SPECIAL" WITH ELECTRIC START. I HAVE ONE. MY 38 IS CRANK START, #17 WOULD BE CRANK START AND HAVE THE AIR CLEANER ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ENGINE THEN WOULD LATER "B"

I have an early 1939 B with electric start on it. I may or may not have came from the factory with the starter, but, one is on there now. It came with the mount for a starter.

there were 100 tractors built in 1937, starting with #1. I think all had the Wakashaw motor. Allis started with 101, i think, in 1938.

Oliver 550 Purchaser Checklist - by Greg Sheppard. Pound for pound the 550 is better than anything I've seen. It has great power for its size and can really hunker down and lug. Classified as a 3-bottom plow depending on soil conditions. I personally don't think it can be beat for a utility tractor in the 40 HP range. They are extremely thrifty on fuel, at least my DSL is. Most drive train parts are fairly easy to get. Sheet metal is probably the hardest thing to
