Muffy; Some use lip type seals and others use jute packing. Both are readily purchased at tractor supply Co. or Atwoods farm stores.

I went to my local Agco dealer to get new seal. They do not carry it any more. So I took the shaft out of gear box and went to local hardware store. The original seal was made of cork, well we found a new style seal that fit the shaft tight but was a little loose in the casting. I took it home put the shaft in the casting and then slid the seal on shaft. I mixed some JB weld and worked it around between the seal and the casting, Then to be sure I did not get the JB weld on the shaft I gently pulled the shaft out. The next morning every thing worked like new. The seal I used was a Federal Mogul #252277. If you find something that works better let us know.
