You don't have to take it loose from the clutch. Make sure you have taken off the sheetmetal cover on the lower front side of the bell housing. you may have to disconnect the steering shaft at the U joint so you can get it out of the way so the engine can slide forward several inches, I don't remember on this one. and I think you have to take off the spring and bracket on the shaft that goes through the pedestal so the engine can be slid forward. Splines on the front of the imput shaft for the transmission slide into the clutch and will slide out. The pilot bearing may stick a little.

You do not need to separate U-joint pulled several without. Just pull hand crank brachet off and clamp a vise grip on outside.
