Oops. I've got it hooked up backward. It started and runs on 12v. with it that way. I didn't know it would do that. I noticed that the starter didn't turn it over like I thought it should.I would't even have thought about it being that way if I hadn't read a previous post on a D-19.
I have been running it temporarily on 12v. till I can determine whether the generator is working or not. I didn't want to buy a 6v. battery if I had to change it over to 12v. Thanks for the info

dont be hasty IRV. your tracotr was 6v positive ground when it left the factory. i is o.k. to make it 12 volt negative ground now. the starter dont know the difference. you will need a resistor in the power to the coil or it will burn out premature. the light can be changed no problem. moany are converted over when the generator fails. if the generator is o.k. that might be worth using 6 volts, otherwise, no. to test the generator ground the "F" terminal. start the tractor with no wire on the "A" terminal. measure the voltage output between "A" and "F" with a digital volt meter. will read about 10-15 volts with no voltage regulator connected. the powere on the "A" terminal determins if the generator is for positive or negative ground.

I turned the connections around and maybe its my imaginaton, but it seems like the starter spins it over better. I noticed after that, that if I speed it up I can see the ammmeter move so I'm sure it charging. How lucky can you get!! I'm thinking about using an 8 volt battery and setting it up for one. We did that on an M Farmall back in the 50's and it worked great.
