You can drill the lever and then bend it a little more and reweld to lever. If you get it too hot the oring will leak and then can split it to replace oring and while there can replace the lever assembly. Usually have about 50/50 sucess welding levers back on.

Thanks for the info, Craig. Given my welding, I am not likely to have any success and should probably just open it up and replace the shaft--something I was hoping to avoid--oh well.
