sounds like your wiring is correct, you even got the 10 ohm resistor in the #1 terminal line, that make the "signal" or "start charge" work a little better at low idle, i believe. AS you mentioned the #2 spade has power all the time and can be connected to the lug on the back of the alternator. If your alternator is good, you should be charging. you should see the amp meter move slightly when on. A better test it the volt meter. if you have one, just put it on the two battery ternimals and read 12-13 volts when off. start the engine and the alternator should put out 14 to 14.5 volts back into the battery. if you have the original coil it is for 6 volt system. you need to get a 12 volt coil from Auto Zone (has an internal resistor) or ask them for an external resistor to put on your 6 volt coil so you can run 12 volts to it. all "coils" are really 6 volt design, but some have an internal resistor so they work on 12 volt systems.

The alsternator does not have anything plugged into the spade connectors. I see a regulator near the tool box. Hope to get internal regulator going. Spades are - - and not the other.

Using a toggle for lights.

having an alternator with the terminals -- is good, but like you say it has an internal regulator, you dont need the external. if you connect it bad stuff will happen. it might have been for an old 12 volt generator, or older alternator. you are on the right track. NAPA can chekc the alternator to verify it is not blown.

The two spades on the alternator have nothing connected to them, I am sure this is part of the problem. I also see a regulator up near the tool box. Would rather have internal regulator. The reason I am changing it now.

Mike, maybe i dont understand what you are doing. If your alternator has two terminals like -- then it has an internal voltage regulator. the terminals are marked 1 and 2 as mentioned in your first post. you need to connect wires to them. if your alternator had two terminals like II parallel to each other , then there must be an external voltage regulator. I think all you need to do is connect the two spades as you mentioned and throw away the old regulator.

That is exactly what I am going to do. I had the alternator tested and it has the regulated output desired. I am rewiring to do away with the external regulator. This is my first attempt to tackle rewiring anything, so I still have a couple of points I would like to have some clarification

A warning light has been suggested, is it connected between Alt, 1 and Acc on switch?
A fifty V diode has been suggested, does it go between the Pos on coil and IGN on Ign switch?
Does the neg of the coil go to the neg on dist. Is there anything connected to the other side of distubutor?
On the ignition switch I have Acc, Starter, Ign and Batt posts. What goes to the starter?, What goes to the Batt?
A 10 ohm resistor is suggested between the alt 1 and coil pos, is this right.
Trying to follow the directions of several is really confusing.
If it has been set up to run 12v in the past then the ballast resisor is not needed, right?
