I do not think i would try any heat. Let that bugger soak in a coffee can full of laquer thinner for a couple of days and see what happens. Be sure to put the lid on the can, no evaporation and it creates a little heat that way.

Thanks for the suggestions. Got it all apart. Reinstalled the plug for the main jet and poured some B12Chemtool (an expensive way to buy those solvents) into the bowl for about 8 hours. The jet came out without damage. The reddish-brown dust that I was getting earlier must have been dried gasoline. Now I do not believe that it was rust. The solvent, when I removed it, was colored the same as the dust. The suggestion for cleaning without removing the jet was to be plan "B".
